To reuse (badly) a metaphor that is used often these days, to me you
are proposing tho transform an old boring tree that helps people
meditating with a shiny Christmas tree with colored light and
decoration which only purpose is to remember us to spend our money in
the commercial center nearby until it is disposed of, after the
season! :)
Btw, soft Christmas lights can help many people, including some autistic people, as it can be used as a stimulant to calm them down.
What you consider useless or "commercial" some people might consider beautiful and a way to connect and relax and spend time with their families.
Finally, light, especially candles, has been used very often across history for meditation, for centuries. It's used in Judaism, Christianity, Yoga, Islam, various eastern religions, etc.
Again, this is all about perspective.
