I'm Considering Getting Starlink

2022-02-17

If you live in America, when it comes to getting connected to the internet you probably have only one choice. And if you're really unlucky that choice is Comcast. There are many reasons why most American towns only have one or two options for cable/internet. I'm not going to get into that now. I'm just venting over how badly Comcast sucks.

When I first got my service 5 years ago, the introductory rate was $50 for a 120Gb down, 12Gb up connection. Over the years it has crawled up to $88 for the same connection. Today new customers can get a 300Gb download speed for $40/mo for 1 year. After one year it rockets up to $98/mo. And that is their lowest tier! So here I am, paying basically the same rate for less than half the connection speed. But here's the thing: I don't want a 300Mb download speed! 120Gb down suits me just fine! I have no issue with my connections speed. Why can't I just use less and pay less?! Why with all the stupid haggling on the phone. Why should I keep switching the contract between me and my wife every few years? Fuck I hate Comcast.

They also sent me their stupid streaming box out of the blue. I never asked for it, never even used it. Just threw it in my closet. Until one day I actually looked at my bill and realized they were charging me monthly for it. ONLY COMCAST would send you something you didn't ask for and then fucking charge you for it.

I don't particularly want Starlink for any reason other than to spite Comcast. I want to tweet them every day about how great my Starlink connection is. I want to send them pictures of my satellite.

Verizon and T-Mobile are also expanding their 5G networks and offering home service. All of them are cheaper than what I'm currently paying for and have more Bandwidth. I'll take whoever gets here first, just get me the hell away from Comcast before I throw bricks through their windows.
