My chinese listening is easily my worst skill. Even if i can get a spoken point across, i usually won't understand the answer.
How to improve listening? By listening more, speaking more, and reading more. Just getting a better feel for the language. I try to spend as much time as possible listening to podcasts or watching chinese videos. At this time they are mostly designed for learners, but i think it's important to get some native content in as well, even if it's only a small amount.
I have also started using anki again to drill sentences with the tingli decks available on ankiweb. I adjusted the cards to only have audio on the front, and have hanzi on the back. I also adjusted the graduation interval to three days rather than one day, and hid all the information about how many cards are left to review and how long the interval is. I've lowered the leech threshold to three misses. Then i do anki just for half an hour every day and stop afterwards. I'm not trying to do all my reviews, just to get lots of short sentences.
Often i will listen to podcasts somewhat passively, while cleaning or walking. But i will watch native video content actively, repeating sections several times over until i can hear what they are saying.
