Hey looky there we made it to 10 issues! I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has made contributions to smolZINE. THANK YOU!
A new endeavor by m15o, the creator of midnight.pub and smol.pub. Nightfall City is part choose your own adventure and part gemini post aggregator. Take a stroll through one of Nightfall City's welcoming districts. Who knows what you'll find.
There is a good variety of subjects and links to explore here. Their quite active gemlog is interesting and a good one to add to your subscriptions if you're into that sort of thing.
Labeling itself "The Slow Social Network", rawtext.club is a tilde community or a shared linux server that allows its users to communicate, learn, play and yes host a gemini capsule. Down at the bottom of the main page is the list of user gemini capsules to explore.

When I was 17 I started playing roleplaying games by email. I would write five to ten pages a week, sometimes more. Exploring characters and storylines together with other writers was fun and engaging. I kept doing it on and off, and since a couple of years back I'm in an off period.
I've come to a point where I really like the idea of publishing. In epub, print, web/gemini. And what I write for those games isn't publishable in that sense; it's more akin to fan fiction in that it uses established IP. It's become a little bit of a jail I'd like to break out of, and do my own thing.
The upside of established settings is the ease of getting into it both as a writer and a reader. It saves time and cognitive effort, while spurring on creativity. I feel stuck trying to come up with something original, and going at it alone isn't as fun. My writing these days is mostly code, IRC chatting and the occasional log post. Getting back into writing fiction is a challenge. Finding time, picking a theme, turning off the inner critic, following through on a story.
Are you in the same situation? Share your tips and experiences!
