Everyone I know is in agreement that childeren must have very limited screen time. I would go just a little further and ask: shouldn't we all have very limited screen time? (The keen eyed among you will see through my feeble attempt to start a discussion about what I think is really wrong with the modern internet.....)

For dinner I had Raisin Bran cereal. I literally had zero motivation to cook tonight, so I went for a comfort food. Big storm moved through the area today and one of the doors got blown in. Broke the latch of the door and the door itself looks like it'll need to be replaced. However, that's about the extent of the damage unlike my neighbor who lost quite a bit of his roof's shingles.

Hello Gemini and Station community, Sometime within the following week or the next month, I plan on starting a new story, using one of the concepts I made. Specifically, the "Broken Puzzle Pieces" concept. I have no particular schedule in mind for this story, so please be patient, at least long enough for me to get a basic schedule established. Here is the link to my Gemlog page: gemini://gemlog.blue/users/PotatoNinja Have a good day, everyone. - PotatoNinja

My wife and I found a house we want to buy. She's got ADHD and have a lot of time, I'm mildly autistic, and is pretty busy. So far we've spent around 5 weeks collecting info for the bank. Amusing and frustrating for us, both at the same time. We'll get there, eventually. (Or someone will buy the house before we're ready...)

I have wanted to get a minimal web site going for a while - something that doesn't require JavaScript and consists of static files only. As a frontend dev, I still want the flexibility of React and want to bring in markdown content. Originally Svelte looked good, but I ran into problem after problem and the implementation was clunky, but I just discovered Astro, which looks like the perfect solution! Do many of you host a personal web site? Post a link! If you don't, why not?

What an odd day. My old custom keyboard had been having issues and was getting worse. I've had the parts to rebuild it fresh with a new and better PCB and switches, but hadn't taken the time. But then this morning my monitor started going haywire too--ghosting, vertical lines, and flickering. The keyboard, meanwhile, kept getting worse and keys were sticking. Out of desperation I completd the keyboard build so I could at least type properly again (it's fantastic), and now my monitor has started working well again too. You know why? That malfunctioning keyboard was plugged into a KVM switch, which was routing my video signals. So to my surprise, fixed keyboard = fixed monitor. π

got some old solar panels that was thrown out at a commercial solar farm. put them up on my storage container and now i have about 2.5kwh nominal (2kwh effective) to power my handful of raspberry pis and sensors. i might have over-engineered the whole thing :)

Been playing a lot of Minetest/MineClone2 lately, and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't honestly see myself returning to Minecraft. It's been a while since a game pulled me in this much. Anyone have any Minetest games they recommend?

Hello all. This is my first foray into the world (in this case, the smol world) of social networking/interaction. I've never once used any social platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram, etc, so this is a first, and what seems like a rather safe and tepid approach. I look forward to interacting with the Gemini Community. - PotatoNinja

Request: Trackball Mouse Recommendations. I have been using the logitech M575 and before that the previous version of it. Is there any better and longer lasting one out there? I seem to go through about 1 every year to year and a half. I do not like the new M575 as much as I did the M570, but I have soldered/resoldered to death my last M570 left lcik switch pad and have been stuck with the M575 Models for the last four years. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance. (Wireless is a must and a deal-breaker for me)

I've been working full-time for the past year and a half saving every penny I can so I can escape the working world (well, at least the version where I work on other people's shit) and go live in SE Asia. I'm getting really close now and it's an unbeliavably freeing feeling. I'm curious... is anyone else doing something similar?

My Prayer To The GNU/Linux Programming Gods Make a game where kids learn the CLI and get rewarded for utilizing the top most used POSIX tools and helps them get comfortable with *nix OS'es. I have books, but I do not have anything to inspire the drive to learn in my children to realy utilize *nix to full potentail. Clicking a GUI is easy.... I do not want to push heavy and have them resent it....

I'm dragging my feet about Reading/Listening to an assigned "No Excuses, by Brian Tracy." I do not know if it is just me or my Asprgers, but I find "Self-Help" books perplexing... They sound and read oddly to me. I find the use of "over" repetitive words grating. "Discipline" and "Self-Discipline" are being said about every thirty seconds, it is almost triggering.

My girlfriend is a teacher in elementary school, and took some of school's laptops with Windows 10 to home to reainstall fresh OS on them and clean any residual data left after last year. One laptop refused to restart to factory and I needed to reinstall OS. It failed once (stuck on preparing system screen) I installed it again and it broke itself doing update, and any "problem solving" tool just waste time to show that is was unable to fix problem. So I reinstalled it again and again it tries to update but now it is stuck installing it which is known problem: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/cant-install-the-kb5030211-update/45f4aa4c-87ac-41a9-9667-8ab8a0ecae96

First time Tinyblogging. It has been a facinating three-day weekend. Connecting for the first time since 2018 to SDF.org and Gopher to find a whole new Phoenix in Gemini and Spartan. I think writing often may be a cathartic release.
