I don't care for the politics either way, but when I read that Pennsylvania Senator Fetterman had the Senate dress code changed just for him, I can't say I was surprised. People get the government they deserve. It's a reflection. It's all about "me me me! The rules don't apply to me! ❄️❄️" Senator Fetterman speaks and dresses like he's twelve years old. He acts like he's a nine-year-old with special needs. That's not a knock against special needs people, but it is what it is. When he was confronted recently about some issue (I don't recall what it was) he covered his ears and had a melt down. Unreal. There's a heart surgeon out there on his third glass of whiskey wondering, "How on Earth did I lose to this slug?"
I feel sorry for him. The valet who parks his fancy car has to wear a uniform, the guy who flipped his last cheeseburger has to wear a uniform, but somehow he's incapable of doing the bare minimum and look respectable? Let's assume that he is capable of dressing himself like a adult and he's dressing down intentionally to "connect to and represent the people of Pennsylvania". What does that say about the people of Pennsylvania? I'm embarrassed for Senator Fetterman and look down on him and the people of Pennsylvania. Half of life is showing up to work and looking the part. This manchild can't even do that.
On a macro level, it is a reflection of current American culture. Americans, in general, dress poorly and do not have a sense of style. I can count the number of people on one hand that wear suits to Church. "Casual Fridays" at work is an institution. Going to an American grocery store looks like a slumber party. It's a free country, and you can dress as you wish, and vote for your favorite candidate, but that doesn't mean I don't look down on you and take pity. Be better, Senator.
