think I'm gonna switch to Debian from Ubuntu. it should be just as stable and I like that it's not controlled by any single company.

I went straight from Ubuntu in the early 2000's to Linux mint to Gentoo lmao. Minimal distros are whdre it's at · 1 year ago

I've been using Slackware on and off for some time now. I appreciate how sincerely the developers stick to original sources and keep patching to a minimum. The SlackBuild scripts are short & sweet. They make it look easy. · 1 year ago

@bencollver Oh I've distrohopped before, I used to be an Arch user but a kernel update completely bricked my install in the middle of a semester, so I switched to Ubuntu so I could count on some stability. But corporate Linux gives me the ick.

I'm liking Slackware rn bc it's got the simplicity and control that Arch had (arguably even more so) but without the looming risk of everything breaking randomly for no reason. · 1 year ago

Welcome to the world of distro hopping. The important part is that you have fun. :-) · 1 year ago

I highly recommend Mx Linux, it's based on Debian but is free of systemd by default. Void Linux is also a great distribution. · 1 year ago

you could consider one of the [*]buntu. i get on quite well with xubuntu myself because i've been using xfce for long. advantages is the minimal install works out the box and then i add what i need - but same true of most dists i guess. · 1 year ago

I am curious about BSD! But I don't think I want to use it as my primary OS.

A friend of mine mentioned Slackware to me and I think I'm gonna play around with that, and then decide whether to switch to it or Debian. · 1 year ago

You should try some kind of BSD. · 1 year ago
