@skyjake: chatting is good and useful:
gemini://gemini.circumlunar.space/docs/gemtext.gmi...Headings are limited to a single line and start with either one, two or three # symbols followed by one mandatory space character: ...
the spec does indeed say 'optional' in gemini://gemini.circumlunar.space/docs/specification.gmi
i'm more confused than when i started lol · 2 years ago
@digbat Headings have an _optional_ space:
Lines beginning with "#" are heading lines. Heading lines consist of one, two or three consecutive "#" characters, followed by optional whitespace, followed by heading text. · 2 years ago
a hashtag index: gemini://kennedy.gemi.dev/docs/search.gmi · 2 years ago
@nristen: yes a different symbol might fit better culturally here, but filpside, # is already a thing, like @. @eph: my own preference would be to put them at the end of a post so as to not clutter up the post start. i can see the use for helping to categorise posts by scripting to produce indexs etc. · 2 years ago
I personally think hashtags are kinda ugly, unless they're out of the way at the very end of a text.
@nristen, how about ✴️ (8-pointed star)? Startags? · 2 years ago
I remember seeing some discussion a while back relating to some gemini browsers identifying a header from both a space and no space after the pound sign. What about gemini using their own symbol or hashtags or tags? · 2 years ago
I believe there's an indexer or two out there that will look for hashtags and link them together. It's definitely something you can do and I don't think it's discouraged. Just watch out that you're not accidentally creating headings. Does anyone have a link to that hashtag indexer I'm thinking of? · 2 years ago
lykso, yes headings and hashtags need care - headings have a mandatory space so i guess browsers will render #hashtags correctly (or not?). i may use #hashtags to indicate topics for posts, or not:-) · 2 years ago
I've not seen it used much, but I don't think anyone here will break out in hives or anything if someone does start doing it. Hashtags aren't technically anything on Station.
Beware that the pound/hash/number sign does indicate a heading when at the beginning of a line, though. That could be considered an argument against. · 2 years ago
