I've been watching this whole gemini thing with mild interest after the experience of watching twtxt disappear into the void. twtxt seemed great at first, simple to make your posts and just plain text, but then the whole "reply" thing was just too cludgy and the light died. When gemini first came out I got little excited, but decided to wait to see how things played out before I committed to using it. Unlike twtxt that was nothing more than a plain text file you hosted where ever, gemini requires a server and a client. When I took another look recently I found to my surprise that there are a number of servers and even more clients available. Maybe the "protocol" portion will make it a success. I'm intrigued by the split between long-form posts vs "tinylog" style micro-blogging posts. I am really curious to see what other things the community comes up with.
So, I am finally dipping my toes in the gemini world. For now I am joining a tilde site to get started. This will give me a chance to get back to playing around in gopher space as well as testing gemini. See ya around!
