Can't forget to mention: The Quake II remaster and all of the extra content is all free if you already owned Quake II on Steam.
I've been playing the remaster today and it's a lot of fun and works great!
@Morgan Same here, the DOOM and Quake games were my bread and butter FPS titles back in those days. That and Unreal Tournament.

@gritty Oh yeah, back in the days when 300 ping was a thing. I remember the first time I took my PC over to a friend's house and got 54mbps and a latency of under 50 and I was so amazed! LOL! I think the dial up where I used to live kinda' sucked.
@xoagray yeah we called the folks with hi speed internet LPBs, low ping bastards. back when l33t speak was new and cool. I went to a lot of LAN parties into the wee hours of the morning.
@gritty Man it's been so long since I did that I almost forgot they were a thing. But yeah, I remember lugging my old 400mhz PC and a 15" monitor around all the time back then. The place where I got my PC used to have little lan parties every weekend, so there would always be 10 or 15 of us there playing UT or Quake 3 or sharing movies and stuff. Good times.
In a nice throwback to those days, Quake II remake does do something most modern games don't anymore. It offers LAN play as an option. :)

IIUC the quake 2 remaster code is gpl and available at their github. I'm not sure about the quake 1 remaster though. can't find that code anywhere.

Quake II remaster is out for all platforms. The game brings the original Quake II with some graphical enhancements as well as all the expansions, and the N64 version. (On all versions, not just the Switch one.) Not a bad get for $10. The original Quake is also on sale right now for $4 if you don't have it.
