I find myself with several notifications, often in the same subspace. I read through the subspace, but still have remaining notifications and have to clear them by hand...

A notification gets cleared only when clicking on one (in dashboard or listed under a post), or when using "Clear all" in the dashboard. This is to avoid accidentally missing notifications while navigating around.
Of course, if one has email notifications enabled, the risk of missing notifications is smaller, so I could consider an option to auto-clear notifications when visiting a post that was notified about.
