I'd managed to do an old-man's injury to myself today so the afternoon bike ride was very gentle and relaxed. Earlier in the day somehow I'd reached down to move something or pick something up, twisted around from where I was sitting and pulled a muscle in my lower back. It was annoyingly uncomfortable and just about stopped me moving for most of the day, luckily sitting & riding were fine
Grey, damp and drizzling all day, so the ride up along Scotchmans Creek to Mount Waverley was very damp and quiet, reminiscent of cruising along in the forest miles from anywhere. The sounds were all soaked up by moisture, the light too, very quiet and autumnal. I couldn't see any birds, but the Noisy miners[1] and Rainbow lorikeets[2] were constant companions, along with the more distant warblings of Magpies[3] and Currawongs[4]. The one noticeably visible individual was a Peewee[5] that came strutting across the road in Clayton, pecking busily around at various bits of detritus on the road before walking back the way it had come
