After some huge wind storms overnight we had strong and gusty winds all day, there are trees down and power outages all over Melbourne. The noisy Blackbird[1] was still trying to deafen us from the bay tree in the garden, singing all day. A pair of Spotted doves[2] hunched on a branch nearby not moving, every time I went outside they were still there. The weather eased up a bit during the day but it was still gusty with scattered showers for most of the day, so when I finally did go out for a short ride almost all the birds were staying firmly perched under shelter, or down at ground level or as protected as they could get. A few Little ravens[3] were poking about in the wet grass, digging up worms and a couple of Red wattlebirds[4] were still flying back and forth to the flowering gums, but far fewer than I see most days. The only other point of interest was at the Caulfield racecourse lake four or five small terns were wheeling about above the island in the centre, calling out. I've no idea what type of term they are and it was too windy and unpleasant to hang around for too long and try and identify them
