A sure sign of spring, along with the warmer weather, is spotting a butterfly or two in the garden. While I was having lunch today I sat and watched as an admiral darted about between the flowers of the mock orange — I'd seen one yesterday as well, near some of the native lilies on the other side of the garden. Now known as a Yellow admiral[1], I'm sure when it was only ever called an Australian admiral, perhaps its just the butterfly book I had. I can remember that when I did see one at home they were near impossible to catch in a net, unlike many of the other slower butterflies. A pleasant change from the usual sightings in the garden, solely the cabbage whites!
