Today an afternoon walk up along the Djerring trail and across Poath road to the start of Boyd park, a wander around the remnant bushland area and back home again. The protective cages over the orchids are still in place, someone has weeded much of the other plants out from around them, and the greenhoods seem to be in their final burst of blooms before vanishing back to being just a few innocuous leaves on the ground. At least next year we'll know where to look to find them.
Then on around the path towards the scout hall to look for the Tawny frogmouths[1], with much searching and stepping back and forth while staring up into the branches I managed to spot only one today. Cryptically hidden as always, I'd finally spotted it just as I glanced away to check my footing, only to look up and be completely unable to find it. It took several minutes of retracing my steps and examining every branch from many angles before finally I found it again, convincing myself that I hadn't imagined it!
