Sunday afternooon bike ride up through the paths and the people and down to Glen Iris wetlands to see what stands out today. Looks as though the council — Stonnington I think — has done a fair bit of work around here in the last week or so. A lot of the paperbark scrub alongside the ponds has been thinned out, the amusingly sited park bench that for the past year has face a wall of scrub now has a view onto the pond. All the big introduced willows along Gardeners creek have been cut down too. Stalking around eating tender green shoots are a couple of Pukeko[1], they really are stunningly coloured when you take the time to look at them, purple plumage and bright red beaks. There's also the similar shaped, but smaller and duller Dusky moorhens scurrying around everywhere on the water and on the banks.
