2021/0702/1300 — natimuk big sky

Revisiting Natimuk today with the bikes, we rode around the 33km "Arapiles Big Sky Trail", a mixed grab-bag of dirt roads, farm tracks, single track and almost ploughed dirt along fence lines. Unfortunately the rain came in a lot earlier than we'd expected and combined with the low temperatures lead to one of the coldest & painful rides on the bike that I can remember. Lake Natimuk was empty so there were no waterfowl to be seen there, Mitre Lake was overflowing so the ride was diverted away from it and no waterfowl or lake to be seen as we passed in the rain. About the only memorable wildlife I see were a few pairs of Australian shelduck[1] in the grassy paddocks and a very large pair of hawks ... I think ... on the power lines as I rode to Natimuk to meet the rest of the family
