Written on Sunday at the end of a week of disruptions, delving back through my memory.
Late afternoon hockey training for number one son for an hour or so on sunset a suburb to the north. An enormous flock of Little corellas[1] were covering one of the sports ovals on the drive there, the ground looked white as though covered in blossom. I took the opportunity to go for a walk along the track beside Gardiners creek. Over the hour it went from the last of the sun to quite dark, dog walkers & joggers in both directions along the path, commuter cyclists whizzing past mostly outbound and homewards.
Ree-ree-ree from many of the smaller ponds, I can't remember which of the frogs the call is from so I can't name them. Shriekings and callings from the banksia and wattles; Rainbow lorikeets[2], Noisy miners[3] and Little wattlebirds[4] getting themselves sorted for the evening. On the way back to the hockey ground in a cooler still patch of air there was the unmistakable whiff of a fox[5], but no sight or sound of it.
