Where have the possums gone? In all the years we've lived in this house there have nearly always been possums around, galumphing across the tin roof in the middle of the night, occasionally getting into screeching hissing fights with each other or with cats. Despite the lemon & orange tree being covered in almost-ripe fruit we've realised in the last week or so that we just haven't seen any for a while.... last time that happened was during the Skyrail construction when there was endless nighttime noise and trees cut down, we were assured that the possums were "relocated" but no details were ever forthcoming. Periodically I used to find one that had been "humanely caught" by one of the local gardeners... then not so humanely killed, stuffed in a plastic bag, and tossed over the back fence onto the railway line, luckily haven't found any of them for a few years either. So hello ringtails[1], hello brushtails[2], where've you got to?
