A second day at Lorne, so different to the birdlife in Melbourne, there's a never-ending parade of mostly native birds in the garden here. Over the course of the day the garden had New-holland honeyeaters[1], Red wattlebirds[2] dipping in and out of the flowering bottlebrushes. Small groups of Blue wrens[3] and a pair of the very exotic looking Eastern spinebill[4] -- they always remind me of hummingbirds and I used to be thrilled when I saw one as a child. Sulphur-crested cockatoos[5], King parrots[6] and Crimson rosellas[7], a small flock of Yellow-tailed black cockatoo[8] creaking mournfully overhead when I went out for a ride, then on the way home some Red-browed finches[9] flashed past. Also managed to spot a Pardalote up on a power line in the street, too small to see clearly, a Striated pardalote[10] from combined guesswork, squinting and checking its call against the bird book
