Blu Ray Regions and Missing Defcon

Time for another gemlog I guess!

I'm missing defcon this year. My husband tore his achilles tendon a few weeks ago, and is

currently in a cast. I'm honestly not that broken up about it, as the vibes were just

plain off when it came to defcon this year for some reason. I was going to help run an

event for my job, which was going to be a little bit fun but also *so many people*, so

I'm a little bit relieved that now I can just watch the talks on youtube later without

having to manage a bunch of sweaty people in what might be my least favorite city ever.

If you go to Defcon I hope you have all the fun!!! So many of my friends are going and

I'm stoked that they get to live their dreams.

Shifting gears, I got a new blu ray player! My old one was a wedding gift, and I loved it

dearly, but then I tried to add a region unlocking mod chip to it and made

The Magic Smoke come out. A shame, but it gave me an excuse to buy a better model of

blu ray player, one with the mod chip preinstalled thanks to a company called

220 Electronics.

Why would I need a mod chip, you might be asking? The answer is simple: The X-Files.

Some years ago, there was a box set of all original seaons of X-Files.

It was released in the US, which would have worked for me, but it's out of print and

currently runs for $500.

Not a vibe.

Meanwhile, in the UK there's a box set of all the original seasons AND the

reboot seasons of x-files. It's still in print and total cost after tax was $170.

Even accounting for the cost of a mod chip, it's cheaper to mod and then import than it

is to try and track down a good deal on the US box set and then find inidividual boxes

for the reboot seasons.

That's all I've really got going on right now. I'm trying to build a DOS computer out of

an old HP thin client, but my VGA to HDMI converter burnt out so I'm waiting for the

replacement to arrive in the mail. Thank goodness Startech has a warranty on these things!
