I like the idea of blogging and self hosting, and have been using hugo to generate the html version of my blog for a while now. I have known about gemini (and gopher) for sometime but never looked into it, and when I did I immediately liked the appeal of simple file markup and no conversion in order to host the pages. I found a guide using Agate, and here we now are.
Just a domain that amused me, that I purchased a few years ago to run a pleroma instance on, and have hung on to. It seems to me like a low key party is a very Kiwi sort of party; just a chilled out gathering.
Anyway I never could get pleroma running back in 2018, but recently did get a fork called Akkoma going as a test. I shut it down after a short while since I help run Mastodon.NZ and Tinker.NZ among others in the NZ Federated Services family and didnt need my own instance.
And now I have no fedi presence, as the instance I helped run changed as it grew... see gemlog about this 😄
So I have been using it for a blog site , pretty much just randomly typing stuff up and sharing it as I feel the urge.
