While we're on the subject, I had a little idea:The spec could clarify that whitespace is to be stripped after the (possibly empty) linetype identifier for *all* line types (outside preformatted mode).
The main point is that this would apply in particular to the text linetype. Currently some clients strip whitespace at the start of text lines, while others display it. If stripping it were standardised, then we could safely use this as a quotation mechanism, allowing text lines which start with one of the magic sequences identifying another linetype.
This would also clarify what to do with whitespace after '
' and '```', which the current spec doesn't.
(Apologies to those on the list if any of this repeats what's in the gitlab comments, but I'm not about to fire up a javascript browser just to check...)
