People who talk about Gemini being dry or lonely place aren't paying attention to the conversations taking place between people. This is a small community and everyone's generally been nice to each other. This is why it's been a bit hard to see rifts form around real life aspects like supreme court decisions etc. From my read I think people are disagreeing on semantics and not really acknowledging the hurt with empathy. Once you've been hurt it's hard to find a home which you can trust. Hope everyone can come together in the end.

I think this shows that the basic fabric of Geminispace is essentially a social network, and human interaction on the internet is subject to the same problems as in the real world — in addition to having additional challenges and advantages.
As a practical takeaway, we might focus on empowering people to moderate what content they see, much like other social networks have ways to mute and block people. Antenna already has a custom filter feature, and Cosmos could use improved filtering as well.
I'm kind of wary of the term "social network" because these existed (e.g. IRC) before the behemoths that are social networks today. It is defined by that term as a good captured to be exploited, and it's verbs like "block" or "mute" really exist to protect the network and not the constituents. Having said that, bbs antenna etc take the form of a Social Network if not its incentives, so maybe there are no alternatives.

No one should use profanity directed at other participants of a conversation, or attempt to silence them due to a perceived disagreement. I understand the frustrations of some individuals here, but this is a free corner of the internet, and all voices and opinions are important.
I've declared Crocker's Rules, so I will personally tolerate name-calling, but there are better ways of explaining one's position than throwing a tantrum.
