Questioning our beliefs and desires is useful in order to get to understand ourselves better.
Asking "why?" every time we want a thing, proves useful in order to understand where that desire came from. By understanding ourselves and our wants in this way, we can sort out our goals, beliefs and attitude towards the outside world.
Questioning itself is a very damaging concept to the consumerist society of today, if we would question every purchase, we probably wouldn't buy so much. For example, most people that buy expensive smartphones, clothing etc., do so in order to belong, or they're insecure about their own worth, which obviously isn't defined by the material wealth they posses.
"Why?" is a good habit to make. Why do I need that? Why do I think that? Why do I feel that? Understanding, along with no judgment, helps one be mindful about his own actions.
