I'm an atheist. In this post I'll clarify why I think antitheism is a flawed position.
Yes, religion and the church have done lots of harm over the centuries. Currently, we're facing class inequality and global warming. Bickering with each other will not help humanity's fate. Yes, churches actively oppose many of the commonly shared progressive goals, including the aforementioned issues, which is why they shouldn't be supported. Although one could argue they're becoming increasingly irrelevant in today's world.
Religion has been a mode for exploitation and suppression of the working class. It's the same manifestation of the wealth extraction performed by the leading class. If we do away with the latter, we get rid, for the most part, of religion.
Religion was created indirectly out of the material needs of the people at that certain point in time. Reducing the argument to "people were just dumb," is unfavourable as we simply didn't have the means in order to disprove religion back then. The material conditions created classes, and the oppressive class created religion as means of suppression.
Most antitheists reduce their view to "if X religion(s) wouldn't exist/religion at all wouldn't exist, the world would be close to an utopia, if not we'd solve most of its issues by not having religion around." Refusing to understand the causes that created the specific need for religion at a point in time, and viewing today's problems as only, or almost entirely, created by religion is an oversimplification and damaging view to all other causes humanity fights for (although it's arguable if humans had a need for religion).
It could also be argumented that religion was born once classes were born in the human society, being a tool for oppression, and that it'll end when we do away with classes.
What I'm saying is we should not limit our world view to just "religion bad," and truly see the issues that we have today as is, in order to have a meaningful impact on society, instead of pointing fingers.
