A new post in the new format.

Wargroove

What is this game?

It was chosen as our Game of the Month for July, so I'm just going to copy its description from there. "Take to the battlefield with Wargroove, a strategy game for up to 4 players! Choose your Commander and wage turn-based war on battling factions. Design and share maps, cut-scenes and campaigns with easy-to-use editors and in-depth customization tools!"

Game of the Month

Is it worth playing?

Well. again, this forum chose it as the Game of the Month, so it's gotta be at least pretty good. Plenty of people talked about it in the "book club" thread which I linked to. I personally really enjoyed it, but I was really disappointed about the cliffhanger ending. Unlocking the actual ending of the game requires beating some extremely difficult side missions - I tried but just couldn't handle it. You can also unlock it by doing a bunch of Arcade or Puzzle missions, but that just seems tedious. Overall, my personal rating is *8/10* - generally pretty fun, but don't even try to unlock the true ending. *The main campaign is challenging but the side missions are on another level completely.*

Running it on Linux, or low-spec hardware?

Now this is interesting: *if you buy the game on Steam, you get native versions for Linux and Mac, even though the store page claims it's only for Windows. The Linux and macOS versions are still in beta*, so it's understandable that they don't want to advertise them - but they're still there if you use these systems. That was a very pleasant surprise! *The beta Linux version has some issue with broken cutscenes, but luckily, all cutscenes are skippable, and the entire game is beatable!* And it runs wonderfully even on the worst hardware, as it's a 2D pixel art game.
