Day 1 & 2
I took off to Newark two nights ago and landed yesterday at about 11am, didn't get my luggage til 2pm but thats okay since the place I'm staying at didnt have check in until 3pm. Once I got to the place I quickly realized that I didn't book a hotel, it was a HOSTEL which if you dont know, is basically someones house but they have a few rooms dedicated to holding a few people at a time. Im currently in a room with two bunk beds but only one other roomate. I also didnt realize that I'm in a bit of a shitty part of the city I'm in. My girlfriend reassured me by saying there's actually worse places than where I am and to be honest I'm still fine. A bit mentally exhausted but mentally I'm sound. I'm looking for apartments as fast as i can and i found one thats much closer to where Im going to be working and its cheap due to the deposit only being $200. im going to call them on monday and see if i can look around or if not apply for the apartment. i hope i get it as i dont wanna stay here until the end of the month.
Day 3
Nothing much happened today, I went to Walmart and noticed a few things...
- Theres no plastic bags. I also noticed that theres no plastic straws as well, seems to be only paper straws. The bags though are completely non-existent, instead you have to buy a reusable bag for about $1-$2 which isnt that much of a pain since these seem pretty sturdy. only time will tell if this breaks easily.
- Damn near everything that isnt groceries are locked up. Wanted to get a razor and shaving gel and i had to wait a bit for someone to open it, then i had to get the item. when i lived in texas you'd have to ask to get it open and they had to get the item but i guess its easier to do it this way? which leads me to my next point...
- Everything is packed and yet everyone keeps to themselves. Walmart was packed, though that can be that its Sunday so everyones doing their weekly shopping. Its crazy though because people just walk in front of others but no one seems really bothered by it? kinda strange i see that as being a bit rude but whatever...
- oh yeah another thing about things veing locked up, theres a bunch of security things ive never seen before. for instance, walking into the walmart there was a security gate thing that automatically opens for you? i dont know how that deters theft but i guess it does somehow. theres also these flaps over some items like the deodorant where you lift the flap and a chime plays while you grab the item. i can understand how that works but i dont know if thats actually a good system. i can imaging working there would get annoying.
thats all for today, tomorrow im gonna call an apartment complex to see if i cam schedule a tour or an application.
