I like cafes, I like sitting in them I like the smell the background noise, I like working on my laptop in cafes. Yes I have become one of those guys who sits at a cafe working on a laptop.
But I will say I am working on my laptop not just surfing the web or in a chat window.
The general cafe/laptop person is mostly Mac some Windows and next to nothing Linux, unless you count Chromebooks which are based on Gentoo sort of.
So here I am sitting here on my Ubuntu laptop typing in Mousepad my text editor of choice, I am the next to nothing Linux guy in the cafe and that's great!
One thing I have noticed, using Ubuntu and it's orangery goodness, it does occasionally attract attention and positive attention too. "Is that a Mac?" "How do I get the bar on the side like that on my Mac?" I explain to them it isn't a Macbook but Ubuntu and then give them an elevator sales pitch on Ubuntu. Some glaze over and that's about the end of it but some are generally interested especially when you start talking about rejuvenating older hardware, sercurity and privacy. I always throw in shrinking your Environment footprint too which is not wrong as in general Linux runs well on older hardware and does help shrink the environmental footprint and reduce e-waste.
Ubuntu stand out in the crowd and when talking to the masses about Linux you need an OS ffor the masses and Ubuntu is that OS.
