February 2022

Jorge Sanz | 2022-02-02 | 474 words | update

🏠 Personal

February started with me recovering from the health matters that got us in January stuck at home. One of the fun things we could do was going to a drive-in theater. It was of course the first time for Bernat, but it was also my first, and he had a better time than I 😅. Another big thing is that we have finally found a buyer for my mom's country house so we had to pack the last of items and belongings we had there and say goodbye to that house we enjoyed in the first decade of the 2000's.

We've been visiting houses but none of them convinced us to buy so we are going to stay here in Aldaia and planning to eventually move downtown Valencia in summer if nothing unexpected happens.

👨‍💻 Professional

At work things are getting back to business as usual, or at least as usual as they can be in these times where a country in Europe is invaded by another. Our team at Kibana Maps has received a new workmate, a Product Manager, that will help us to stay connected to our users and community and to guide us in our roadmap.

A new building construction started just by my window at my office, meaning a very loud environment. Noise canceling headphones are a bless! Soon I'll move to a dedicated office just downstairs so the construction sound is probably going to be more or less the same but in a more quiet room and with a more private set up.

Finally, unfortunately we got notified that the 2022 company gathering won't happen in person again so we won't be traveling to the US this year 😢.

❤️ Community

On February a did some community work cleaning up http://planet.osgeo.org[1] and reviewing abstracts for the Spanish SIG Libre conference. I was able to attend a good portion of the FOSDEM conference. I had to also take care of Bernat so I could not interact much with other attendees but nevertheless it was great to attend one of the last (hopefully) "only-streaming" conferences of the year.

📚 Reading

This month I haven't read much, but after finishing Pump Six and Other Stories[2] I started reading the Millionaire Fastlane[3] by MJ DeMarco and Stranger Things Happen[4] by Kelly Link. The first one I have to admit I'm having some difficulties to enjoy, but the second is again another collection of short stories that I hope it will be more pleasing to read.
