There are only a few games that I'm following very closely here, which surely exposes me as a Fake Gamer, which is fine.
S/V is constantly reminding me of what it could be if they hadn't chosen to go in the blandest and sort of ugliest direction possible with their textures. The concept art for this DLC is so pretty (like all the other concept art for S/V so far) but the game comes up so short.
I'm not one of the people who hates that Pokemon transitioned to 3D graphics on principle because I'm actually normal about 3D art, but there are so many great examples of games that successfully converted their 2D art style to appealing 3D... and this isn't one of them. The colors and shading are very dull-looking in general, and the attempt at realistic texturing doesn't work with the art style at all! Also, the backgrounds don't look good.
Anyway, I like Carmine's design a lot and I wish her model looked as good as her art does...
This game also looks not very nice. I wasn't the biggest fan of the 3DS game graphics, but this somehow seems like a downgrade even from that because it inherited the sad washed-out colors and ugly backgrounds from S/V. I think I'm also kind of underwhelmed because the movie had the audacity to be incredible and I don't think the games can compete with it.
Okay, so this is entirely nostalgia bait in like 5 different directions, but so far it looks like very pretty and well-executed nostalgia bait so I don't care. There was so much whiplash going from Pokemon to this - there's so much care put into the backgrounds! It's ridiculous! And the little smooshed down versions of everyone are so cute! There wasn't much information about the updated gameplay outside of the combat, so I'm looking forward to seeing more.
PEACH GAME
Another game that looks really great in all aspects so far - the new features look really fun and cool! I'm excited! I don't really have much else to say but I'm excited.
I'm not entirely sure how Nontindo manages to keep reinventing the Super Mario Bros games, but they are. (Granted, Mario is the entire foundation of their company, so they don't really have a choice here...) This one has a lot of fun new gimmicks in it. I thought the animations were super well-executed here too.
