Every once in a while I get a strong urge to own a dot matrix printer.

Then I can do this:

cat filename.txt > /dev/lp

... and listen to the beast roar into life.

It'd be glorious.

Imagine dumping 1000+ lines of source code to /dev/lp, going for a stroll and coming back to one long continious sheet of geekery.

Living the dream.

my first printer was a tandy thermal dot matrix, i think the roll was a silver colour. later i can remember being very happy to upgrade my dot matrix to an inkjet - printer drivers were a pain then and still are! very happy to use a "laser" printer now. i can totally understand the pull of retro - i want my atari st back:-) · 11 months ago

It would be cool to make an emulator that also emulates the sound of a dot matrix printer. If they can be used to generate music then it must be deterministic. · 11 months ago
