Most of the fonts that I've come across are limited to 7-bit ASCII because they were created before unicode really took off. I think there's a still a big untapped opportunity for experimenting with different unicode code blocks.

Using Figlet Fonts to Make ASCII Banners — If you use Linux you can use figlet to create simple ascii banners. [preformatted] The program uses "figlet font" files with the extension 'flf' or 'tfl', which you can find on the web. Very old school. We should probably make a repository of them here. [contents of pagga.tfl]
