I found myself only collapsing preformatted text blocks by accident (especially in spellbinding). There are probably really good use cases for collapsing preformatted blocks but I have yet to run into one. Would it be feasible to have a setting to turn this feature off globally?

Why not, a "never collapse" option would be a nice complement for the "always collapse" option.
