Re: "I'm surprised there isn't a subspace for spartan. I..."
@remy honest question, since we're serving text, is it noticeable? not sure how much overhead tls introduces but I know it's a bit.

I notice the difference between gemini and spartan on my wifi network with my server on my home network (something like 60ms with gemini and 30ms with spartan). It is even more noticeable on a slow connection like an overloaded mobile network.
@gritty - I'm not certain how to interpret your question. I'm using spsrv on my webserver.
@jdcard fwiw Agis starts as root just to open port 300, then drops all privilege immediately after and runs a whatever user you configure it to.
@jdcard I wasn't sure how many servers there were and if they are only on the spartan mainpage. @remy that's interesting!
@jdcard what's your opinion on SRV records?
@winduptoy - Hmmm... that's an interesting idea. I avoid messing with DNS when I can but I think I'll try an SRV record and see how various Spartan clients handle that.
@jdcard - Oh, I assume none of them handle it since it's not in the spec. I see a lot of issues revolving around ports (e.g. lack of root access in your case) and so little discussion of SRV records. Seems to me like a good tool to use. I'm hoping more specs start mentioning them as a requirement to alleviate issues like this.

I'm surprised there isn't a subspace for spartan. I remember a lot of folks chatting about it a while back. anyone using / updating spartan (capsules?)?
