I live and work at the Benson Place, a blueberry farm in western Massachusetts. My family has goats, chickens, rabbits, and we grow just about every vegetable which can survive on our windy mountaintop. We produce over 50% of our own food by value.

I know many geminauts are interested in these things, and I'd be interested to hear what kind of food-growing endeavors you are up to!

๐Ÿ‘‹ I do *not* live on a farm, but I am from the country and all of these things are in my blood. I started growing blackberries last year, but I very much do not know what I'm doing. Would love to talk about it in this community!

not a farmer but grew up in "the woods". never had a green thumb but appreciate those that do. I'll probably check here to see what's popping up on discussion.

I just bought my first house about a year and a half ago and I can finally have a garden. I'm still new to it but I loved growing tomatoes last year and am branching out some this year as well as learning how to compost. It's an absolute delight.

I am not great at it but I have some stuff growing right now and a lot of it needs to get properly planted rather than being in the containers that they're in currently. Two guava trees in pots that I need to plant, 2 cherry tomato plants, some pepper plants in a container that I may just leave there, a dwarf lime tree and a calamondin.

@kelbot I love this! I wish plans like that grow in my climateโ€ฆ and I wish I had a bigger greenhouse

@lori what kind of tomatoes?

And how is composting going? it can be tough sometimes to find a system that works well.

@satch I have a few separate types this year, my dad picked them out when he was getting his own so I have forgotten the names of them all, but I have big red, yellow, and heirloom tomatoes, and less cherry tomatoes this year because last year I had more cherry tomatoes than I could possibly eat. Composting is something I just started in the last week so not sure how it's going yet, but I have a regular bin and a worm bin. I wanted two setups because I'd like to compost dog waste from the yard, but want to avoid that going to fertilize edible stuff, so the worms are for that (and just interesting to have).

my favorite kind of heirloom tomato is Aunt Ruby:

good luck with composting! Itโ€™s a super interesting process, and can require a lot of attention, at least while youโ€™re getting going

Also, I love cherry tomatoes so much. We also have too many, but we dehydrate the extras and they are great in soups throughout the wintertime.

โ€” the sweetest snacking tomatoes ever!

Hello fellow New Englander! I am taking a break from gardening this season; time constraints as well as a groundhog that has taken up residence next to the plot. My parsley has volunteered again this year along with some other herbs, currently in mint season. I may plant some cannabis if I can find some clones; that is fun to grow and hopefully Mr. Groundhog won't chomp it on me.

@murdock hi! oh yes, we love the groundhogs. Nice to get some volunteers even when you don't have time to garden ๐Ÿ˜Š we have gotten some wacky volunteer squash over the years.
