Watching people entrench sides on [#retrocomputing] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrocomputing) and [#retrogaming] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrogaming) topics is very strange to me.
(I'm not talking about the jokes, long running or otherwise. Jokes are jokes.) :)
I've developed code for so many of the systems that these people get awfully fanatic (to the point where it sounds an awful lot like nationalism!) about. I love them all, and do these projects explicitly as excuses to spend time on all these machines; and why I am trying to hard to make things to bring them all together.

My [#68k] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/68k) home brew computer is coming along nicely. I’ve decided on 512Kx16 ROM and 1Mx16 RAM, and just a 68K-era 68C681 serial chip for I/O for now. I might hook up a parallel port and the FPGA VGA interface I’m working on later. I’ve started hooking up the serial chip and preparing placements for bus buffers and transceivers. 555-based power-on reset circuit is set as well.
There is something really calming about carefully measuring and weaving hookups on the [#breadboard] (https://oldbytes.space/tags/breadboard) .

Hey lovely Mastodon folk. I've just released an HP-35, HP-45, HP-80 simulator called HP-1973 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the HP-45 calculator. (Free) standalone versions for Mac and WIndows (no need for any Python installation or knowledge) & Python source for Linux. It's been a coding marathon, so it'd mean a lot to me if you could boost this post, so it gets in front of the right people. Another sound card—or rather sound module—is the WP32 McCake. It is a variant of the [#mt32pi] (https://chaos.social/tags/mt32pi) based on the Raspberry Pi CM4 and the MUNT emulator. There are also retro soundcards using completely modern components. This here is the PicoGUS by [@polpo] (https://bitbang.social/@polpo) which can emulate the GUS, Tandy and AdLib standards. [@mattdm] (https://hachyderm.io/@mattdm) (quoting random parts [the website] (https://www.bu.edu/computing/linux/installation.shtml) )
BU Linux is installed via the campus network; we currently do not provide an entirely CD-ROM-based installation process. However, you will need to have a boot CD containing the initial install program.
You can either come to the Office of Information Technology (at 111 Cummington St) and we can give you a CD for $5, or you can make one yourself. Download the current boot CD image and burn it to a CD-R. Make sure to use your CD-writing software's "burn from ISO image" or "create from disc image" feature — don't just put the file on the disc.
Supported BU Linux releases:
4.0 (Bossanova): supported through August 2006
3.0 (Doolittle): supported through August 2005
What platforms does BU Linux run on?
Currently, we support x86-processor based systems — anything from a 586 with 64MB of RAM up to a latest-model Athlon or Pentium IV boxes. We do not currently support PowerPC, Sparc, MIPS, or Alpha systems, but are considering at least some of these platforms for future releases. An x86_64 (Athlon64) release is also planned.
