It should be no mystery how the ruling class keeps themselves in power.
Firstly, every US citizen goes through a mandatory K-12 schooling, which is designed to train children how to "work". Some have the luxury of being schooled in private institutions. Most others, though, are relegated to the public system. These two systems have widely different levels of the quality of education. Both, though, serve to stratitfy society.
Next, many People continue their education in for-profit colleges and trade schools. Many have to take out "loans" in order to progress. By contrast, those who are priviledged enough to have their parents fund their education, continue debt free.
Within the first 20 years or so of the average US citizen's life, the pattern of a deep class divide makes itself known.
Now, once the "unfortuante" students finalize their education, they are REQUIRED to find employment, lest they STARVE. Many must put themselves into further debt by leasing, or otherwise paying for the use of a personal vehicle, as the transportation infrastructure in the US is designed to facilitate a car dependent society. With these vehicles comes maintenance and fuel fees. Oh, and mandatory insurance payments.
Of course, all these poor saps need a place to sleep, prepare meals, use the bathroom, and store personal belongings, among all the other things every Human being needs to survive. IOW, they are REQUIRED to pay for a residence. IOW, more Debt.
How does the average US citizen pay this debt off?
WORK!
What's even more insidious, many People are offered a line of credit. Just further debt that one amasses, and must WORK to "keep on top of" it.
Work. 9-5. 40 hours a week. Spend all day in a dictatorial environment, only to go home dead tired, then spend the rest of their day "turned off". Take out food, streaming TV. Rinse, repeat, at least 5 days a week. Many must work more than that.
No time to think about their collective situation.
One last thing...
Many of those in the Leisure Class (the aforementioned privileged ghouls) are the ones YOU MUST pay "residence fees" to.
What a great system.
Not.
