General discussion on ASCII art. Unicode art, ANSI, figlet, image2ascii, historical interests, questions, etc. All are welcome!
White Tower — Found this one randomly. I don't see much usenet-era ASCII art this large scale. [preformatted]

About ASCII Art and jgs font — New article from french artist Adel Faure that goes into some of the history of ASCII art along with a custom font they designed. Also be sure to check out their website, which is designed entirely in ASCII!

T-Rex — While I'm not thrilled with how some of the finer details turned out, I'm happy with the overall scale and the 3d effect. [preformatted] We need more ASCII dinos! Rowland Crawford made a couple of interesting ones: [preformatted] [preformatted] (This one is supposed to be kicking its foot towards the camera but its hard to make out with my font.) And this one from snd made me chuckle [preformatted]

Golf Swing — This is a "stroboscopic" image, which is a unique type of photography that involves taking multiple flashes in quick succession to capture different stages of movement in a single frame. It's one of the few techniques used to express movement in a static picture. [preformatted]

Trying to get serious about my ASCII — I've dabbled for a while, but this is what I consider my first attempt at an actual serious piece. Behold, [The Tower by Beetledjuice] The fine-tuning took a bit longer than I'd like to admit, but overall I'm quite proud of it.

Using Figlet Fonts to Make ASCII Banners — If you use Linux you can use figlet to create simple ascii banners. [preformatted] The program uses "figlet font" files with the extension 'flf' or 'tfl', which you can find on the web. Very old school. We should probably make a repository of them here. The first letter of my name. [preformatted] I didn't make this by hand :( I just made an image and used Station's profile pic converter. But I still think it looks super cool.

— The "Omloppsbanan" orbit page
Omloppsbanan ("The Orbit") — My first attempt to make ascii art. It is the logo for an orbit I host, whose name is a pun. It is a swedish word that means "orbit" (literally "the circulatory path"), but could also be interpreted as "the circulatory banana". I wanted to make something that looked like the old "Space Lego" logo. I also sneaked in some ascii art bananas and a signature hidden in the comet. Enjoy! [ASCII art...

Q: Please forgive my ignorance, is this for manually-made ASCII art only or is algorithmically and downloaded art cool, too?

Cats — This is my favorite cat. I love the way that Felix uses the shape in the "4" to outline the face. It's super difficult to pull of this much expressiveness in only 4 lines. [preformatted] Here's another one. Again, a very expressive pose and you just know this cat is laying in a sunny spot on a carpet somewhere. The carpet lines add an interesting background texture without distracting from the image. [preformatted]
