Had another crazy week, guess that's my life now. But more on that later, maybe.
Let's get into it...
The release of Debian 12 is around the corner, the tentative date for the release is somewhere in June, I am guessing that it will probably happen at the end of June, Start July?
So why am I excited for this?
It's because Debian 12 means a new MXLinux, namely MX-23, which is, to me, one of the most functional distros out there. What makes it even better is that it has flatpak support via their own package installer and, it is systemd free, which I don't mind, but I do like having options/alternatives. I am currently running Manjaro on my "work" laptop, the one I use everyday at home to attend classes, study, apply for jobs and such. Manjaro recently had an major update (after a month since the previous update) where they released a grub update & config without the cryptdisk modules loaded, which means all of us who were running encrypted installs had systems that were unable to boot. I remember Philm replying to a user's post on the forum reporting this issue with something like "I don't really use encrypted installs". This means, they did not test this update on an encrypted system, at all. How can you test updates without having at least one machine with an encrypted install? Also, Manjaro comes pre-installed on a lot of ARM laptops etc, which should mean that stability is a CRUCIAL requirement. To their credit, they did mention the issue on their update post, and a fix was released a few days after many users complained, but no solution was posted in the original announcement.
I mean, I can't even. No time to rant for 10 days. Moving on.
This leads me to why I am feeling uncomfortable running Manjaro, on any machine. Just use Arch, it would be more stable and has saner defaults than Manjaro.
This leaves me with only one real option, running Debian or a Debian-based distro on my "work" laptop. I might try doing a minimal Debian install to see if I can get it running, but if I don't have time, I would probably go for mxlinux 23 and trim it down?
