I've been working on my Hybrid Shadows - my Sci-fi, Transhuman story. I've actually had a couple people ask me about this story lately, and I really appreciate the interest! I love the story, and have much more written in a very, very rough form, including the ending. This one isn't so light-hearted like Lantashi's Dance, so takes more effort for me to write.
I have a short scene ready to go (Scouting Mission), and will publish a much longer scene in a few days after I have a change to clean it up.
The following scene is shorter, but starts to show that this planet isn't so friendly as it may seem to some of the characters (particularly Kendra).
This scene, as well as two more scenes to come, are part of Chapter 2. I hope to finish the first draft of Chapter 2 this month, but I have a couple other writing projects I'm working on as well. They compete for my time, and I'll write about one of them here in the next day or two.
A link to the full story is at the bottom of this post.
More to come!
As the large personnel carrier passed, there was activity close to the path of the colonists.
It was a reptilian creature, standing on two legs to watch the intruders, and shifting its color to blend in with the surroundings. While it did not understand the technology, still it made thousands of adjustments to its body so that it would not be detected by the scanners they carried. It existed with a different understanding, a different consciousness. The creature was not seen, simply because it did not want to be seen. Its mind heard the waves of the scanners, the communications between the scouting party and their base miles back. The reptile's senses were also seen, and heard, by its masters by the valley rim.
More vehicles passed, both filled with people and scientific equipment. The creature fell to all fours. It slid closer, moving up towards the path they rolled over. Others of its kind moved in as well, reaching out with their senses. It could see the vehicles as thousands of separate parts, all showing up in different colors, and looking to the creatures as moving in slow motion.
The humans, too, they could see into, the blood flow, the beating of the heart, the electrical signals of the brain. All this information was returned to the hive, which followed the action of its scouts.
Near silently the reptilians run after the vehicles, after the men and women. Even once out of sight and earshot, the transports left heat signatures that were easy to trail. Much information would be gathered for the give this day.
