This post is coming from the highest point along Hadrian's Wall. It's a beautiful clear, sunny day with just a light breeze and a smattering of clouds.
Surprisingly, there's nobody else about, even though it's a Bank Holiday Weekend. I can hear the distant buzz of a light plane in the sky above and, below in the valley, the dull roar of cars on the nearby B-road. Cows and sheep call to each other in their own secret tongues. Nearer is the hurried buzzing of insects amongst the low wind-swept flowers.
I'm submitting this whilst stood on a small slab of stone on the north side of the surveyor's trig point, looking into the warm afternoon sun. It's about 2 pm. A butterfly just landed on my arm. Maybe someday you can come and stand upon this spot and tell me what you see.
