We installed a simple plug and play consumer grade security system today. The system comes with as many door and window monitors as you like. You purchase most things as you need; cameras, smoke sensor, carbon monoxide sensor, motion detectors, heat and water sensors, etc. I started off with a fairly limited system and want to see how things pan out before dropping any more cash on something that may not work for us. Although, at least initially, it seems like everything meets expectations. I still have another camera coming that was back ordered. I think I will buy a few more sensors. I did not sign up for professional monitoring. I think it's around $320.00 per year. For about $110.00 per year you still get alerts when motion turns on the cameras, etc. We'll see how it goes.

I realize that this type system will not deter an individual intent on breaking and entering. It should, however, suffice for our needs. It's not like we really have that much of value that anybody would want. In the end I guess it all boils down to a reasonably inexpensive tech toy for me.
