Westmeath County Council has confirmed that one of the traffic routes at Pump Lane will remain non operational until Friday, October 6, with traffic diversions in place.
Mardyke Street, which has been fully closed to traffic since March and shall remain so until the end of August.
Speaking this week Deirdre Reilly, Regeneration Project Manager with Westmeath County Council, stated that the closure of Sean Costello Street, from Flannery's Pub to The Stairwell, will come into effect once Mardyke Street reopens. Traffic which has proceeded through Sean Costello on a one lane basis in recent years will then be routed alternatively.
John Cradock Ltd is the contractor working on the €4 million streetscape upgrade at Mardyke Street, Pump Lane and Sean Costello Street.
It is expected that the streetscape project will be fully completed at the end of February 2024.

Meanwhile, further vehicular disruption is in place on the west side of Athlone, repair and painting works taking place over a 10-12 week duration necessitating the closure of one lane of traffic on Grace Road.
Commenting on the situation Irish Rail stated that road traffic management for single-lane traffic will be in operation with delays to vehicular traffic movement kept to a minimum.”
Although single lane traffic will remain operational 24/7, repair works will primarily take place during day time hours to avoid major disruption to local residents.
Residents will be informed in advance if any night works will have to be conducted.
