Located on the northwest corner of Eudoria, the north continent of Calypso. They say it's a holiday resort these days. If you ask me, it's a shithole in the desert, full of white sand and rusted oil rigs.

The truth is, I don't know where I am. I'm stuck in a space capsule for the last twelve years. No communication. I'm in deep space.

When the asteroid or whatever it was got detected by the Navy, they promised to evacuate us all to the Exodus station. They said the impact was inevitable and that planet Calypso they way we knew it would cease to exist. Then something went wrong. Instead of getting teleported to Exodus, I woke up in a tiny capsule somewhere far far away.

My last memory of Calypso was standing at the top of a mountain, forgot the name, waiting for the asteroid to hit. That was it.

When I woke up in the capsule and overcame the initial shock of being lost in space, I started thinking, what's next? With the modern life support systems, I can survive in this confined place for years, thousands of years. But what for? I couldn't find any good answer. Exhausted, I fell asleep.

I dreamed of planet Calypso. I was back. But it wasn't the same. There were places with the same names, same people around me, yet the landscape looked unfamiliar. I was in a dream after all, I thought. It was nice to be home.

I dreamed of Corn Beach north east of Fort Argus. It's nothing to do with corn. The beach was always full of young Cornundacauda, an easy to hunt animal that looked like a mixture between an elephant and exotic bird. New settlers loved that place.
I used blades for hunting back in those days. Hated the smell of burned flesh after killing with lasers. Nea was there too with the crew. Good fun.

This was a particularly long flight in hibernation. Six months of going back and forth between vivid dreams of Calypso and an absolute darkness of interstellar space in my mind. I think I'm finally starting to realize what's going on. Let me gather my thoughts together and I'll tell you. You, whoever finds this journal, probably after I'm long dead, travelling at near light speed as a frozen corpse.

I think there are two of me. One copy of me was successfully teleported to the asteroid-hit planet once they confirmed it's habitable again. And another copy is the one that writes this message from a claustrophobic capsule.
Usually they keep a full infomorphic replica of every colonist in the orbital memory bank, just in case if any of us die before our contract expires. I fear with all the mess of evacuation protocol they took my replica too soon, before I died on top of the mountain.

Or maybe I didn't die? Maybe I escaped in this capsule unharmed and the colonial bureaucrats just dropped everyone in their list back to the planet?
If it's true, both copies of me seem to have some kind of mental connection. When I sleep, I experience the other me. Is it reciprocal? I can't tell. I'll try to record both perspectives, just in case if they ever find this capsule, and if the other me wanted to compare the experiences.

I came out of hibernation mode on schedule. Surprisingly, I didnโt have a long immersive experience this time. Maybe Iโm too far away from Calypso. I just recall hunting Kreltin at the Space Station. These were ugly aliens, cloned for entertainment of experienced hunters like me. It wasnโt cheap because the management company was putting a huge markup on ammo supplies, but it was still worth it. Kreltin were kept in large domed enclosures with an artificial landscape. The secret was to stay on top of a hill and slow them down while shooting.
Iโll do my routine checks. Disconnect.

Flying in a capsule, alone, in the wast emptiness of outer space, provides a lot of time for self-reflection. I'm getting used to the idea that she, the other me, exists simultaneously with me. And we have this subliminal connection. There is no paradox.
