Lotto community funding a lifeline for Derry film company

Paddy Leonard, 22 Jul

Derry's popular and highly acclaimed local film and theatre company,

Black North Productions, have recently received funding from the

National Lottery 'Community Fund' which will enable them the ability to

offer free acting lessons, free costumes, free transport, free drama

lessons, free admission to the premiers and the opportunity to gain

valuable experience in the creative media industry.

Black North Productions are currently working on their short film

“Missing Chapter” which deals with the profound effects of the covid 19

pandemic on our young people.

“In essence, without funding from the Lotto Community Fund, we would

not be able to continue to offer all aspects of film involvement for

free”, commented Joseph McCarthy, Black North Production’s writer and

director.

“Our membership grows with every production and unlike many other arts

organisations, we are all unpaid volunteers and all funding received

goes into providing people of all ages and backgrounds with invaluable

experience in the arts at no cost to them whatsoever.

“I can’t praise this lotto initiative enough as they have not only been

very supportive, but they also have an invaluable insight into what

community arts is really about,” continued Joseph.

“Missing Chapter” will premiere later in the year and as always,

admission will be free.
