20210605 Convent

Before there was a blacksmith on the site of our house there was a convent on this place in medieval times. But the convent wasn't a big succes. I read in a history book that the convent was finally closed, just before the Reformation, because the Catholic Church found out it was a place of sin and debauchery. All nuns were transferred to another, more strict convent and the remains of the convent were sold to the city that immediately demolished what was left to make way for a road. The only thing left of that time is a small stretch of wall that was also part of another house. It has a small niche, in which I imagine once stood a figure of Mary. And then there is the neighbouring house, which is one of the oldest houses in the city and which is said to have been the beer brewery of the convent. They demolished everything and they kept the brewery. That makes sense to me.
