A hyperspecific problem with a hyperspecific solution

2023-06-21T16:56:04Z

Here's the problem: Sometimes I put away my phone, and have the camera app open without realizing it. That creates an issue: The battery will drain.

Why? Well, the camera app prevents sleep, and it uses quite a bit of battery. If I didn't realize my phone was on the camera app and I left it alone for a good bit, the battery drains to death.

So, what did I do to prevent it?

I have Open TimeLimit installed on my phone, which I configured to stop me quite after bed time.

Open TimeLimit

However, there's nothing stopping me from making a limit to the camera usage. So I created a limit on the camera app.

The limit is mainly usage duration based. If the camera app is open for 30 minutes without going through the 1 minute cool down (that's my configuration), TimeLimit will block the camera app until the cool down period has passed.

I also added a *lot* of time warnings so that if I am legitimately using the camera to record something longer than 30 minutes, I'll get quite a few notifications before TimeLimit shuts down the camera app (which would likely disrupt a long recording).

Also, yes, it does work. Having the camera "accidentally" open for 30 minutes will make TimeLimit block it, then the phone will go to sleep in 1 minute of doing nothing, preventing further battery wastage.
