Thank you β€” I'm very ethusiastic to see a gemini/titan server created by Skyjake. I've tried a few Titan options over the past year and they were too complicated for me. The agate server is the one I keep going back to but the documentation looks very good for this one. I submitted the above before I was done - it's my first post here. But thanks for making this. I've been wanting to bring some http sites over to gemini and Titan support was what I needed to see to make it happen. Thanks for...

checking if this site connection is secure so frustrating to see how they describe what is happening, when it is not true. they claim that they make a check for me, for the user, to see if it is safe to connect to that site, by 'checking the connection', if 'it is secure'. while if it's https, and there is this lock, it's secure. what they are actually checking is do i behave like a bot, and am i secure for the website? and they tell me they check if the website is secure for me. i would...

Hit a 10 pound weight loss milestone today. Very happy! Doing lots of physical labor and eating right in moderation seems to be paying off. When I started really excercising I was a little discouraged since it seems I actually gained weight, but looking back I think an increase in muscle mass could counter balance weight lost through fat burn, so perhaps measuring my waist would be a more accurate way to see how im doing. Either way I am out of belt notches and my pants are super baggy so its...

Well, every big corp in the World Wide Web is closing their open access to their sites and APIs, so it was only time Google decided the World Wide Web is *their* API and close it to be used the *approved way*. Link to Reddit, beware. [https link] Google's New Web Environment Integrity (read DRM)

Fence β€” I sometimes try to avoid artificial objects in landscapes, but I think they can work out if you embrace them as part of the composition.

My PROXY v2 C# Implementation β€” Since we're on the subject of reverse-proxies today, here's something I wrote in C# which parses a binary (v2) PROXY-protocol header from the beginning of a Stream. Note that NGINX doesn't support the v2 protocol, only the plaintext version (v1). I can confirm that this implementation works well behind HAProxy (which it should, since it's their protocol anyway). A word of warning about using PROXY in a Gemini context: if your reverse proxy is *not* terminating...

Minimalist Challenges β€” I try my best to lead as minimal a lifestyle as possible, which I doubt will be seen as unusual by many people here considering the text-heavy interface we're all choosing to utilize. I feel like I already have just about everything that I need. I don't want to support capitalism and consumer culture, so I try my best not to. However, I have run into a couple of areas which this is more difficult for...

Cicada Macro Photography (5 image gallery) β€” Cicada are a big bulky tank of an insect that pop up here every other year during the summer time. They are quite noisy but very cool looking and non aggressive. This one perched itself on top of my outdoor power cord, I believe it is beginning the process of molting its skin.

i see the comments are in the 'newest first' order. today i continued my post with comments, and i see the first comment is a continuation of a second. people usually scroll from up to down, so i guess the default way of having up to down comments chronologically would be better. otherwise they need to read the post, then go down, then gradually navigate upwards. also i can imagine that the click on the arrow which shows order of comments(it is upward now, and i cannot find the way to change...

however i think, the internet i like is a hobbyist network. no ads, collection of many small servers. however i think, it's not possible to 'earn' money on the internet without ads, or without exploiting the current state, that most of the users aren't literate enough to communicate on the network (message, have a web presence, site, page, blog, rss feed) without using big corporate technologies. they don't know about the alternatives even and it is hard to explain the decentralized way of...

in web world, when the server software contains a web server, it is usually is designed to listen on some port, and then our main web server (apache/nginx/whatever) can be configured to proxy https to that port. in gemini world, we often have gemini projects that itself listen on 1965, but i guess/hope can be configured to listen on some other port. do we have a gemini server that can serve several capsules, and 'proxypass' requests to different ports? (i have my snobbish reasons to also...

Urgh, my capsule is down thanks to Oracle's free tier cloud service being jank as hell. Per [gemini link] alls I gotta do is rebuild the instance and I can use the same boot volume and stay within the free tier now that my trial is up. Except I'm getting: Out of capacity for shape VM.Standard.A1.Flex in availability domain AD-1. So now I gotta either wait until it's free, or destroy my boot volume (I have a local backup of the relevant dirs) and move to a new AD. I'm gonna go do...

Chicken of the Woods β€” I took this one a couple of years ago. We were on a mushroom hunting hike through Stebbins Canyon, where we spotted this lovely shroom in a shallow ravine while walking back to the car. Everyone else on the hike had gone home already. We took it home and I soaked it in brine, then fried it and served it with a white sauce and fettuccine. It tasted good but gave me a horrible stomachache shortly afterwards.

tip for those who would like to post photos to bubble on their android phone: the app 'imagepipe' both strips all metadata for privacy and also has a image quality/compression slider to easily find a balance between resolution and the 100kb cap

Antenna instance β€” Just got a basic antenna instance running. The only feature that works is url submission and I haven't really tested it out. Please don't rely on it as a primary distribution hub as I just barely got it running tonight but feel free to submit links. Protoweb Brings Back The 1995 Web β€” Have any of you heard of the Protoweb project yet? I hadn't until just this morning, and I thought it may be interesting to some people on here. The goal is to basically take old sites from the 95/96 era that have some dead functionality through the Wayback Machine (broken API's, streams that no longer exist, missing files, etc) and repopulate them one by one to produce a fully functional web from the mid-90's that's accessible by browser proxy. If you don'...

I tried out Hare shortly after it was publicly announced and found it pretty cool then, but haven't gone back to it again until recently. It's got a really minimalist ethos, which I really like. I did have to patch the port on FreeBSD to get it to work there, but it was a single line added to config.mk. Hopefully the maintainer will act on it quickly. Dr Brian Callahan has it working on OpenBSD as well. It only supports open source operating systems, which I find I like. Currently working on...

Multiple sites in gmcapsule β€” Say I wanted to serve 2 capsules...let's assume static for now sub1.example.com sub2.example.com I'm wondering if the ini would look like this: [server] host = sub1.example.com, sub2.example.com certs = <cert loc> [static] root = /var/gemini with each site served from: /var/gemini/sub1.example.com /var/gemini/sub2.example.com and DNS entries would point to the same IP:port
