I just tested positive — something that surprised me even though I am on day 3 of a strange little cough. I had received my fourth dose just on May 19th and was feeling somewhat bulletproof.
When I got the cough I started home-testing every day, and tested negative. I almost skipped today, because, you know, it's kind of unlikely... But then I felt the familiar joint ache which alternates with an almost ecstatic feeling when I shift my legs to a more comfy position.
That, to me, is the symptom unique to covid. I don't know if I am physiologically weird as I haven't heard anyone mention that. The muscle/joint aches that turn to an extremely pleasurable sensation after getting more comfortable…
To be fair, joint aches are always a part of symptoms of flus and colds for me, especially around the knees. But the pleasure part is strictly Covid.
So I donned a mask and sequestered myself to protect my family, sure that it was Covid, and it was.
Come to think of it, I haven't been able to think about writing code for the last few days, and my wordlog entries for the last three days consist of one or two definitions...
It is very disappointing that the vaccine did not prevent the infection. Hopefully it will minimize the symptoms. The first time (pre-vaccine) was brutal, but everyone I know who had Covid recently said it was a little cough, which is what it is so far. Fingers crossed.
The odd thing is that I was seriously exposed but did not get sick when my partner got Covid a couple of months ago: I was coughed on for several days before she tested positive. That was before the booster. Then I get the booster and get sick two weeks later, when it is supposedly fully kicked in.
This time around my partner is not yet sick — probably natural immunity still holding up (she did not boost since she was sick so recently. I suspect (for no really good reason) that being sick might give you more protection than a booster.
Although I really can't tell what's up with vaccines, and hardly care, to be honest. It looks like we will all be getting Covid from time to time, and hopefully not getting too sick.
I wish that mask mandates were still in place, as it feels terrible to walk through the wake of people coughing in the street and on the trains, for no good reason. At least the majority of New Yorkers are smart enough to keep their masks on in stores.
